Linus Torvalds 99ef60d119 USB / Thunderbolt changes for 7.1-rc1
Here is the big set of USB and Thunderbolt changes for 7.1-rc1.

Lots of little things in here, nothing major, just constant
improvements, updates, and new features. Highlights are:
   - new USB power supply driver support (will cause merge conflicts in
drivers/power/supply/Makefile, but it's a simple fix) These changes
did touch outside of drivers/usb/ but got acks from the relevant
     mantainers for them.
   - dts file updates and conversions
   - string function conversions into "safer" ones
   - new device quirks
   - xhci driver updates
   - usb gadget driver minor fixes
   - typec driver additions and updates
   - small number of thunderbolt driver changes
   - dwc3 driver updates and additions of new hardware support
   - other minor driver updates

All of these have been in the linux-next tree for a while with no
 reported issues

Oliver Collyer 2c8fe1f142 media: uvcvideo: Add support for P010 pixel format
Add support for the P010 (10-bit Y/UV 4:2:0) pixel format to the
uvcvideo driver. This format is exposed by USB capture devices such as
the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro when capturing HDR10 content.

P010 stores 10-bit Y and interleaved UV samples in 16-bit little-endian
words, with data in the upper 10 bits and zeros in the lower 6 bits.
This requires 2 bytes per sample, so bytesperline is wWidth * 2.

V4L2_PIX_FMT_P010 was added to the V4L2 core in commit 5374d8fb75
("media: Add P010 video format").

Based on the community DKMS patch from awawa-dev/P010_for_V4L2.

Badhri Jagan Sridharan d3d959404e tcpm: Implement sink support for PD SPR AVS negotiation
Add support to enable TCPM to negotiate with
USB PD Standard Power Range Adjustable Voltage Supply (SPR AVS) when
acting as a power sink.

* Added support to the tcpm power supply properties, allowing userspace
to enable and control the dynamic limits (voltage and current)
specific to the SPR AVS contract.
* Implemented tcpm_pd_select_spr_avs_apdo() to select the appropriate
APDO and validate the requested voltage/current against both the
  Source and Sink capabilities.
* Implemented tcpm_pd_build_spr_avs_request() to construct the
Request Data Object (RDO) for SPR AVS.
* Added SNK_NEGOTIATE_SPR_AVS_CAPABILITIES state to the state machine to
  handle negotiation for SPR AVS.
* Updated the SNK_TRANSITION_SINK state to implement the SPR
AVS-specific VBUS transition rules, including reducing current draw to
PD_I_SNK_STBY_MA for large voltage changes, as required by USB PD spec.

Jie Deng 9f6a983cfa usb: core: new quirk to handle devices with zero configurations
Some USB devices incorrectly report bNumConfigurations as 0 in their

enumeration.
logs:

However, these devices actually work correctly when
treated as having a single configuration.

Add a new quirk USB_QUIRK_FORCE_ONE_CONFIG to handle such devices.
When this quirk is set, assume the device has 1 configuration instead
of failing with -EINVAL.

This quirk is applied to the device with VID:PID 5131:2007 which
exhibits this behavior.

Amit Sunil Dhamne b558a9cc10 usb: typec: tcpm: add support for Sink Cap Extended msg response
Add support for responding to Sink Cap Extended msg request. To achieve
this, include parsing support for DT properties related to Sink Cap
Extended. The request for Sink Cap Ext is a control message while the
response is an extended message (chunked). As the Sink Caps Extended
Data Block size (24 Byte) is less than MaxExtendedMsgChunkLen (26 Byte),
a single chunk is sufficient to complete this AMS.

Supporting sink cap extended messages while responding to a
Get_Sink_Caps_Extended request when port is in Sink role is required in
order to be compliant with at least USB PD Rev3.1 Ver1.8.

Laurent Vivier 55f854dd5b qmi_wwan: allow max_mtu above hard_mtu to control rx_urb_size
Commit c7159e960f ("usbnet: limit max_mtu based on device's hard_mtu")
capped net->max_mtu to the device's hard_mtu in usbnet_probe(). While
this correctly prevents oversized packets on standard USB network
devices, it breaks the qmi_wwan driver.

qmi_wwan relies on userspace (e.g. ModemManager) setting a large MTU on
the wwan0 interface to configure rx_urb_size via usbnet_change_mtu().
QMI modems negotiate USB transfer sizes of 16,383 or 32,767 bytes, and
the USB receive buffers must be sized accordingly. With max_mtu capped
to hard_mtu (~1500 bytes), userspace can no longer raise the MTU, the
receive buffers remain small, and download speeds drop from >300 Mbps
to ~0.8 Mbps.

Introduce a FLAG_NOMAXMTU driver flag that allows individual usbnet
drivers to opt out of the max_mtu cap. Set this flag in qmi_wwan's
driver_info structures to restore the previous behavior for QMI devices,
while keeping the safety fix in place for all other usbnet drivers.

Linus Torvalds 17f8d20093 USB / Thunderbolt changes for 7.0-rc1
Here is the "big" set of USB and Thunderbolt driver updates for 7.0-rc1.
Overall more lines were removed than added, thanks to dropping the
obsolete isp1362 USB host controller driver, always a nice change.

Other than that, nothing major happening here, highlights are:
   - lots of dwc3 driver updates and new hardware support added
   - usb gadget function driver updates
   - usb phy driver updates
   - typec driver updates and additions
   - USB rust binding updates for syntax and formatting changes
   - more usb serial device ids added
   - other smaller USB core and driver updates and additions

All of these have been in linux-next for a long time, with no reported
 problems.

Linus Torvalds 37a93dd5c4 Networking changes for 7.0
Core & protocols
 ----------------

  - A significant effort all around the stack to guide the compiler to
make the right choice when inlining code, to avoid unneeded calls for
small helper and stack canary overhead in the fast-path. This
generates better and faster code with very small or no text size
increases, as in many cases the call generated more code than the
    actual inlined helper.

  - Extend AccECN implementation so that is now functionally complete,
also allow the user-space enabling it on a per network namespace
    basis.

  - Add support for memory providers with large (above 4K) rx buffer.
Paired with hw-gro, larger rx buffer sizes reduce the number of
buffers traversing the stack, dincreasing single stream CPU usage by
    up to ~30%.

  - Do not add HBH header to Big TCP GSO packets. This simplifies the RX
path, the TX path and the NIC drivers, and is possible because
user-space taps can now interpret correctly such packets without the
    HBH hint.

  - Allow IPv6 routes to be configured with a gateway address that is
resolved out of a different interface than the one specified, aligning
    IPv6 to IPv4 behavior.

  - Multi-queue aware sch_cake. This makes it possible to scale the rate
shaper of sch_cake across multiple CPUs, while still enforcing a
single global rate on the interface.

  - Add support for the nbcon (new buffer console) infrastructure to
netconsole, enabling lock-free, priority-based console operations that
    are safer in crash scenarios.

  - Improve the TCP ipv6 output path to cache the flow information, saving
cpu cycles, reducing cache line misses and stack use.

  - Improve netfilter packet tracker to resolve clashes for most protocols,
avoiding unneeded drops on rare occasions.

  - Add IP6IP6 tunneling acceleration to the flowtable infrastructure.

  - Reduce tcp socket size by one cache line.

  - Notify neighbour changes atomically, avoiding inconsistencies between
the notification sequence and the actual states sequence.

  - Add vsock namespace support, allowing complete isolation of vsocks
    across different network namespaces.

  - Improve xsk generic performances with cache-alignment-oriented
    optimizations.

  - Support netconsole automatic target recovery, allowing netconsole
to reestablish targets when underlying low-level interface comes back
    online.

 Driver API
 ----------

  - Support for switching the working mode (automatic vs manual) of a DPLL
    device via netlink.

  - Introduce PHY ports representation to expose multiple front-facing
media ports over a single MAC.

  - Introduce "rx-polarity" and "tx-polarity" device tree properties, to
generalize polarity inversion requirements for differential signaling.

  - Add helper to create, prepare and enable managed clocks.

 Device drivers
 --------------

  - Add Huawei hinic3 PF etherner driver.

  - Add DWMAC glue driver for Motorcomm YT6801 PCIe ethernet controller.

  - Add ethernet driver for MaxLinear MxL862xx switches

  - Remove parallel-port Ethernet driver.

  - Convert existing driver timestamp configuration reporting to
    hwtstamp_get and remove legacy ioctl().

  - Convert existing drivers to .get_rx_ring_count(), simplifing the RX
ring count retrieval. Also remove the legacy fallback path.

  - Ethernet high-speed NICs:
    - Broadcom (bnxt, bng):
      - bnxt: add FW interface update to support FEC stats histogram and
        NVRAM defragmentation
      - bng: add TSO and H/W GRO support
    - nVidia/Mellanox (mlx5):
      - improve latency of channel restart operations, reducing the used
        H/W resources
      - add TSO support for UDP over GRE over VLAN
      - add flow counters support for hardware steering (HWS) rules
      - use a static memory area to store headers for H/W GRO, leading to
        12% RX tput improvement
    - Intel (100G, ice, idpf):
      - ice: reorganizes layout of Tx and Rx rings for cacheline
locality and utilizes __cacheline_group* macros on the new layouts
      - ice: introduces Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) support
    - Meta (fbnic):
      - adds debugfs for firmware mailbox and tx/rx rings vectors

  - Ethernet virtual:

The port driver sets this bit for an alternate mode description to indicate
support for the mode selection feature. Once set, individual Alt Mode

`typec_altmode_state_update` function is invoked by the port driver to

`typec_mode_selection_delete` function stops the currently running mode

Linus Torvalds 8f7aa3d3c7 Networking changes for 6.19.
Core & protocols
 ----------------

  - Replace busylock at the Tx queuing layer with a lockless list. Resulting
in a 300% (4x) improvement on heavy TX workloads, sending twice the
number of packets per second, for half the cpu cycles.

  - Allow constantly busy flows to migrate to a more suitable CPU/NIC
queue. Normally we perform queue re-selection when flow comes out
of idle, but under extreme circumstances the flows may be constantly
busy. Add sysctl to allow periodic rehashing even if it'd risk packet
    reordering.

  - Optimize the NAPI skb cache, make it larger, use it in more paths.

  - Attempt returning Tx skbs to the originating CPU (like we already did
    for Rx skbs).

  - Various data structure layout and prefetch optimizations from Eric.

  - Remove ktime_get() from the recvmsg() fast path, ktime_get() is sadly
quite expensive on recent AMD machines.

  - Extend threaded NAPI polling to allow the kthread busy poll for packets.

  - Make MPTCP use Rx backlog processing. This lowers the lock pressure,
    improving the Rx performance.

  - Support memcg accounting of MPTCP socket memory.

  - Allow admin to opt sockets out of global protocol memory accounting
(using a sysctl or BPF-based policy). The global limits are a poor fit
for modern container workloads, where limits are imposed using cgroups.

  - Improve heuristics for when to kick off AF_UNIX garbage collection.

  - Allow users to control TCP SACK compression, and default to 33% of RTT.

  - Add tcp_rcvbuf_low_rtt sysctl to let datacenter users avoid unnecessarily
aggressive rcvbuf growth and overshot when the connection RTT is low.

  - Preserve skb metadata space across skb_push / skb_pull operations.

  - Support for IPIP encapsulation in the nftables flowtable offload.

  - Support appending IP interface information to ICMP messages (RFC 5837).

  - Support setting max record size in TLS (RFC 8449).

  - Remove taking rtnl_lock from RTM_GETNEIGHTBL and RTM_SETNEIGHTBL.

  - Use a dedicated lock (and RCU) in MPLS, instead of rtnl_lock.

  - Let users configure the number of write buffers in SMC.

  - Add new struct sockaddr_unsized for sockaddr of unknown length,
    from Kees.

  - Some conversions away from the crypto_ahash API, from Eric Biggers.

  - Some preparations for slimming down struct page.

  - YAML Netlink protocol spec for WireGuard.

  - Add a tool on top of YAML Netlink specs/lib for reporting commonly
computed derived statistics and summarized system state.

 Driver API
 ----------

  - Add CAN XL support to the CAN Netlink interface.

  - Add uAPI for reporting PHY Mean Square Error (MSE) diagnostics,
as defined by the OPEN Alliance's "Advanced diagnostic features
for 100BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet PHYs" specification.

  - Add DPLL phase-adjust-gran pin attribute (and implement it in zl3073x).

  - Refactor xfrm_input lock to reduce contention when NIC offloads IPsec
    and performs RSS.

  - Add info to devlink params whether the current setting is the default
or a user override. Allow resetting back to default.

  - Add standard device stats for PSP crypto offload.

  - Leverage DSA frame broadcast to implement simple HSR frame duplication
for a lot of switches without dedicated HSR offload.

  - Add uAPI defines for 1.6Tbps link modes.

 Device drivers
 --------------

  - Add Motorcomm YT921x gigabit Ethernet switch support.

  - Add MUCSE driver for N500/N210 1GbE NIC series.

  - Convert drivers to support dedicated ops for timestamping control,
and away from the direct IOCTL handling. While at it support GET
    operations for PHY timestamping.

  - Add (and convert most drivers to) a dedicated ethtool callback
for reading the Rx ring count.

  - Significant refactoring efforts in the STMMAC driver, which supports
Synopsys turn-key MAC IP integrated into a ton of SoCs.

  - Ethernet high-speed NICs:
    - Broadcom (bnxt):
      - support PPS in/out on all pins

Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
 "Core & protocols:

   - Replace busylock at the Tx queuing layer with a lockless list.

Resulting in a 300% (4x) improvement on heavy TX workloads, sending
twice the number of packets per second, for half the cpu cycles.

   - Allow constantly busy flows to migrate to a more suitable CPU/NIC
     queue.

Normally we perform queue re-selection when flow comes out of idle,
but under extreme circumstances the flows may be constantly busy.

Add sysctl to allow periodic rehashing even if it'd risk packet
     reordering.

   - Optimize the NAPI skb cache, make it larger, use it in more paths.

   - Attempt returning Tx skbs to the originating CPU (like we already
     did for Rx skbs).

   - Various data structure layout and prefetch optimizations from Eric.

   - Remove ktime_get() from the recvmsg() fast path, ktime_get() is
sadly quite expensive on recent AMD machines.

   - Extend threaded NAPI polling to allow the kthread busy poll for
     packets.

   - Make MPTCP use Rx backlog processing. This lowers the lock
     pressure, improving the Rx performance.

   - Support memcg accounting of MPTCP socket memory.

   - Allow admin to opt sockets out of global protocol memory accounting
(using a sysctl or BPF-based policy). The global limits are a poor
fit for modern container workloads, where limits are imposed using
     cgroups.

   - Improve heuristics for when to kick off AF_UNIX garbage collection.

   - Allow users to control TCP SACK compression, and default to 33% of
     RTT.

   - Add tcp_rcvbuf_low_rtt sysctl to let datacenter users avoid
unnecessarily aggressive rcvbuf growth and overshot when the
     connection RTT is low.

   - Preserve skb metadata space across skb_push / skb_pull operations.

   - Support for IPIP encapsulation in the nftables flowtable offload.

   - Support appending IP interface information to ICMP messages (RFC
     5837).

  Driver API:

   - Add CAN XL support to the CAN Netlink interface.

   - Add uAPI for reporting PHY Mean Square Error (MSE) diagnostics, as
defined by the OPEN Alliance's "Advanced diagnostic features for
     100BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet PHYs" specification.

   - Add DPLL phase-adjust-gran pin attribute (and implement it in
     zl3073x).

   - Refactor xfrm_input lock to reduce contention when NIC offloads
     IPsec and performs RSS.

   - Add info to devlink params whether the current setting is the
default or a user override. Allow resetting back to default.

   - Add standard device stats for PSP crypto offload.

   - Leverage DSA frame broadcast to implement simple HSR frame
duplication for a lot of switches without dedicated HSR offload.

   - Add uAPI defines for 1.6Tbps link modes.

  Device drivers:

   - Add Motorcomm YT921x gigabit Ethernet switch support.

   - Add MUCSE driver for N500/N210 1GbE NIC series.

   - Convert drivers to support dedicated ops for timestamping control,
and away from the direct IOCTL handling. While at it support GET
     operations for PHY timestamping.

   - Add (and convert most drivers to) a dedicated ethtool callback for
     reading the Rx ring count.

   - Significant refactoring efforts in the STMMAC driver, which
supports Synopsys turn-key MAC IP integrated into a ton of SoCs.

Simon Schippers 7ff14c5204 usbnet: Add support for Byte Queue Limits (BQL)
In the current implementation, usbnet uses a fixed tx_qlen of:

USB2: 60 * 1518 bytes = 91.08 KB
USB3: 60 * 5 * 1518 bytes = 454.80 KB

Such large transmit queues can be problematic, especially for cellular
modems. For example, with a typical celluar link speed of 10 Mbit/s, a
fully occupied USB3 transmit queue results in:

454.80 KB / (10 Mbit/s / 8 bit/byte) = 363.84 ms

of additional latency.

This patch adds support for Byte Queue Limits (BQL) [1] to dynamically
manage the transmit queue size and reduce latency without sacrificing
throughput.

Testing was performed on various devices using the usbnet driver for
packet transmission:

- DELOCK 66045: USB3 to 2.5 GbE adapter (ax88179_178a)
- DELOCK 61969: USB2 to 1 GbE adapter (asix)
- Quectel RM520: 5G modem (qmi_wwan)
- USB2 Android tethering (cdc_ncm)

No performance degradation was observed for iperf3 TCP or UDP traffic,
while latency for a prioritized ping application was significantly
reduced. For example, using the USB3 to 2.5 GbE adapter, which was fully
utilized by iperf3 UDP traffic, the prioritized ping was improved from
1.6 ms to 0.6 ms. With the same setup but with a 100 Mbit/s Ethernet
connection, the prioritized ping was improved from 35 ms to 5 ms.

Jimmy Hu baeb66fbd4 usb: gadget: udc: fix use-after-free in usb_gadget_state_work
A race condition during gadget teardown can lead to a use-after-free
in usb_gadget_state_work(), as reported by KASAN:

  BUG: KASAN: invalid-access in sysfs_notify+0x2c/0xd0
  Workqueue: events usb_gadget_state_work

The fundamental race occurs because a concurrent event (e.g., an
interrupt) can call usb_gadget_set_state() and schedule gadget->work
at any time during the cleanup process in usb_del_gadget().

Commit 399a45e523 ("usb: gadget: core: flush gadget workqueue after
device removal") attempted to fix this by moving flush_work() to after
device_del(). However, this does not fully solve the race, as a new
work item can still be scheduled *after* flush_work() completes but
before the gadget's memory is freed, leading to the same use-after-free.

This patch fixes the race condition robustly by introducing a 'teardown'
flag and a 'state_lock' spinlock to the usb_gadget struct. The flag is
set during cleanup in usb_del_gadget() *before* calling flush_work() to
prevent any new work from being scheduled once cleanup has commenced.
The scheduling site, usb_gadget_set_state(), now checks this flag under
the lock before queueing the work, thus safely closing the race window.

The last item, the usb i/o driver, has an i2c and gpio driver added
through this tree. Those drivers were acked by the respective subsystem
maintainers, but you will get a merge conflict with the i2c tree where
new drivers were added in the same places in a Kconfig and Makefile.
The merge conflict is simple, just take both sides.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only issue
being the i2c tree merge conflicts.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 41f71deda1 Merge patch series "usb: gadget: Refactor function drivers to use __free() cleanup"
Kuen-Han Tsai <khtsai@google.com> says:

This patch series refactors the error-handling paths in the bind()
function for f_ncm, f_acm, f_ecm, and f_rndis drivers.

The current, unified goto logic in these drivers is vulnerable to a null
pointer dereference. This is caused by the cleanup logic incorrectly
handling the stale usb_request pointer after a bind/unbind cycle. This
series fixes this issue by converting the drivers to use the modern
__free() scope-based cleanup mechanism.

Patches 1-2 are preparatory, adding the endpoint pointer to struct
usb_request and defining helpers for the __free() cleanup. The remaining
four patches use this new plumbing to refactor each driver.

Future work
-----------
1. Refactor usb_ep_free_request(), usb_ep_queue(), and usb_ep_dequeue()
functions as the ep parameter becomes redudant.
2. Convert the remaining gadget function drivers to use the new __free()
   cleanup mechanism.

Kuen-Han Tsai bfb1d99d96 usb: gadget: Store endpoint pointer in usb_request
Gadget function drivers often have goto-based error handling in their
bind paths, which can be bug-prone. Refactoring these paths to use
__free() scope-based cleanup is desirable, but currently blocked.

The blocker is that usb_ep_free_request(ep, req) requires two
parameters, while the __free() mechanism can only pass a pointer to the
request itself.

Store an endpoint pointer in the struct usb_request. The pointer is
populated centrally in usb_ep_alloc_request() on every successful
allocation, making the request object self-contained.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 44bbcba50d Merge patch series "Support system sleep with offloaded usb transfers" into usb-next
Guan-Yu Lin <guanyulin@google.com> says:

Wesley Cheng and Mathias Nyman's USB offload design enables a
co-processor to handle some USB transfers, potentially allowing the
system to sleep (suspend-to-RAM) and save power. However, Linux's System
Sleep model halts the USB host controller when the main system isn't
managing any USB transfers. To address this, the proposal modifies the
system to recognize offloaded USB transfers and manage power
accordingly. This way, offloaded USB transfers could still happen during
system sleep (Suspend-to-RAM).

This involves two key steps:
1. Transfer Status Tracking: Propose offload_usage and corresponding
apis drivers could track USB transfers on the co-processor, ensuring
the system is aware of any ongoing activity.
2. Power Management Adjustment: Modifications to the USB driver stack
(xhci host controller driver, and USB device drivers) allow the
system to sleep (Suspend-to-RAM) without disrupting co-processor
managed USB transfers. This involves adding conditional checks to
bypass some power management operations in the System Sleep model.
